Children in Need was named the 2024 Nonprofit of the Year by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce during the 2024 Business Awards held February 28. 2024.  The prestigious award underscores the organization’s unwavering commitment to providing vital essential items to children.

Each year, the Nonprofit of the Year Award recognizes and honors a 501(c)3 organization with a Board of Directors that provides exemplary services and/or programs within Washington County. Children In Need was recognized for its outstanding efforts in addressing the diverse needs of local children facing adversity.

Founded in 1998, , Children in Need, Inc., dedicated to improving the lives of economically disadvantaged children in Washington County, has been a beacon of hope for thousands of children and families. Through its Client Services Program, families and children enrolled in the program access free clothing, hygiene items, school supplies, coats, shoes and more. On behalf of their children, clients can visit the Center once a month to receive these items. Currently, Children In Need serves 2,291 children through its Client Services program and additional 1,000+ children through the agency’s Extended Services Program, which provides essential items to Washington County Public Schools and other agencies. The organization’s initiatives have made a meaningful difference in the lives of those it serves by distributing over 160,000 essential items to local children.

Through our services, children receive the essential items they need to ensure that have academic success.”

Children In Need serves at-risk children so that they may achieve their potential through educational readiness by supplying them with the essentials needed to have positive social and emotional school days. This support is designed to help the child graduate from high school, move on to higher education or career path, and to become a productive engaged citizen.

Since January 2023, the agency has seen a 49% increase in client caseloads with 96% of its clients living at or below the federally recognized poverty level. The remaining 4% of its clients are Asset-Limited, Income-Constrained, and Employed (ALICE) and are often one emergency away from poverty.

As Children In Need celebrates this prestigious accolade, the organization reaffirms its commitment to advancing its mission and expanding its reach to serve even more children in need in Washington County. Through continued collaboration and innovation, Children In Need aims to create a world where every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.
